Autumnal colours are starting to emerge from the landscapes around me both in Hertfordshire and Cornwall. The view over the valley here in Cornwall is rapidly turning from green to ochres and rusts.
The colours reminded me of this piece I made a few years ago using oil-pastels. I really love working in these sennelier oil-pastels, they enable me to draw quickly in colour. They let me describe something with a kind of immediacy, which gives the studies a certain freshness and vibrancy. I am going to make some more rapid sketches of the landscape around Penryn, as the colours are changing daily at the moment. They will help to inform the paintings that i am making in my Cornwall series.
