I am really looking forward showing work for the first time at The Byre Gallery: ‘The Bright Side’ will be a sensory experience of colour. I’ll be showing new work made during this long winter lockdown, full of colour and warmth and infused with light and saturated colour.
These new works were made as a counter balance to a grey Cornish Winter and hint at exotic experiences and travel to warmer climbs. I was yearning for adventure and travel like everyone else, so I decided to create my own sense of escape using pigments and vibrant, ink stained canvases in red, orange and pink. Heat has been a theme running through my work recently and these paintings continue this investigation.
The show has been curated by gallery owner Elaine Dye who has chosen my recent ‘Room’ paintings to display alongside the beautifully colourful paintings of Sophie Harding. We are both very much inspired by the work of Matisse as well as the flora and fauna of the south-west coast of Cornwall, U.K. We both share a love of vibrant colours and these will be expertly complimented by glass artist Helen Eastham and ceramicist Judy McKenzie.
The show opens Thursday 3 June and there will be a mini Private View that evening from 5pm to 7.30pm, and the following day Friday 4th June. If you’d like to join in on either date, please contact the gallery to let them know your preferred time slot and if you’d like to come along either with friends as a group of six, four, or a couple, or just yourself. There will be wine… so it might just feel a bit like the PVs we used to have – only with much more space.
