Making more experimental prints down in Cornwall last week, i was using sugar lift to create etchings. This is a process where you draw directly onto the plate with the sugar lift – a substance that feels a bit like paint but that acts as a resist to the liquid varnish that is poured over the whole plate. The sugarlift is then rubbed away and dissolved in water before the plate is aquatinted and etched. This print has two plates one laid on top of the other. It was made from a quick drawing i did of tomatoes in a bowl. I’m going to experiment with inking this in different colour combinations.
