There’s so many beautiful things that capture my attention when i visit Cornwall. The shapes and shadows of boats in dry docks, reflections of light on the estuary and the soft, sometimes iridescent colours of the tiny shells and pebbles on the beaches opposite Falmouth Harbour. These colours and shapes have infiltrated and informed quite a bit of my new work recently.
This painting started as a very busy picture with lots of shapes and coloursĀ bouncing off one another. But during the painting process it became more and more simplified and pared down, leaving only a few really simple shapes. It’s made using acrylic paint with layers of very soft oil-pastel over-laid on top.
